HISTORY of Grundisburgh Village Hall

A bit of History behind the hall
The village of Grundisburgh is a close community that uses all its facilities. The old village hall had been enjoyed by the village for almost a 100 years and had come to the end of its life. It was essential for the village to have a new hall and so after many years of planning, we were able to bring to life a community facility that everyone can use.
Following a competitive tender process, local building contractors and house builders, DAB were chosen to partner the village hall management committee and were awarded the contract to build the new hall. Ground works started on the 18th January 2021 and construction took just 12 months with the new hall completed in January 2022.
The village hall is owned by “Members”, all of whom are groups within the village such as WI, GADS and Folk Dancing club etc. Members and other local village groups get a discount on the standard hire rates.
The village hall is a registered charity and is run by trustees, elected by the Members. All the trustees give their time and energy on a voluntary basis. There is no outside local funding and the hall is self-sufficient financially and has over 1,000 bookings every year. The new hall was funded partly through the efforts of hundreds of locals who gave generously of their time and money to build this new facility.
The village hall has set up a Community Fund to support hirers who need financial help and this fund pays for part of the hire fees. This includes hire cost support for entities such as a Kids Creative Workshop, the Tech Hub, Warm Rooms (run by the church) and the Brownies plus numerous local fund raising events as well.
We have an annual AGM where we always welcome questions and comments.
